GUWAHATI, Dec 12 – The Diesel Locomotive Shed, New Guwahati, the easternmost locomotive maintenance shed of the Indian Railways, today marked its 53rd foundation day with a national seminar on ‘Diesel Locomotives.’
The two-day seminar is being attended by railway mechanical and technical engineers from over 20 diesel sheds and workshops across the country. This is the first-ever of its kind of national seminar organised by the Indian Railways.
Speaking on the occasion, SK Aggarwal, Chief Mechanical Engineer of Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), said that the motive behind the seminar is to provide a single platform to the engineers of the Indian Railways and those involved in diesel loco maintenance, to discuss the hurdles faced in work and the probable solutions to overcome them.
Professors and experts from IIT Guwahati are also participating in the seminar.
Dr Rajiv Tiwari, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of IIT Guwahati, said they are keen to share technology with the Indian Railways to improve maintenance practices. It is noteworthy that IIT Guwahati students participate in internship programmes at the New Guwahati Diesel Locomotive Shed.
The two-day seminar has a number of issues for discussion in its itinerary like non-response of load meter, auto shut down.
