Int’l workshop on river management

 GUWAHATI, Dec 12 – A complete session will be dedicated to the Brahmaputra at an international workshop on river management being held at NASC Complex, DPS Marg, New Delhi with a 3-day programme from December 14. The Indian Water Resources Society, Roorkee and the Department of Water Resources Development and Management, IIT, Roorkee are jointly organising the workshop.

Prof Nayan Sarma, Head of the Department of Water Resources Development and Management, IIT-Roorkee told this correspondent that the Ministries of DoNER and Water Resources and the Planning Commission are the main sponsors of the event.

The technical sessions include – climate change and hydrologic response of river system, Brahmaputra session, channelisation, flood control, river management for stream bank erosion, catchment area processes and stream flow, river behaviour management, environmental and eco-system management (two sessions) and trans-boundary river management.

The session on Brahmaputra is scheduled for 2.30 pm on December 14. DoNER Minister BK Handique will address the valedictory function at 3 pm on December 16.
