|NESO bandh total, peaceful in Dima Hasao|
HAFLONG, Dec 10 - The 11-hour North East bandh called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) and supported by many organisations, including ADSU, DWS, DMA, NCHISF etc., in protest against the Citizen (Amendment) Bill (CAB) was total and peaceful in Dima Hasao district.
Normal life in Haflong was affected by the bandh as vehicles were off the roads. All the business establishments, markets and banks remained closed. All government and semi-government offices remained closed too, except the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police. Train services were normal even as the district administration arranged vehicles to ferry passengers from New Haflong Railway Station.
Reports of bandh from places like Langting, Mahur, Maibang, Harangajao, Umrangso are pouring in. However, no untoward incident was reported thus far.
David Keivom, president of NCHISF said they have extended their support to all the organisations of Dima Hasao for today’s bandh while expressing serious concern over the government move of establishing detention camp in the district.
Prithiviraj Hojai, general secretary of All Dimasa Students’ Union while offering heartfelt thanks to the people of Dima Hasao for supporting the bandh call, said the government should review the CAB immediately so that no organisation would be compelled to go for such an agitation in future.
