Protest over student’s suicide|
JORABAT, Dec 7 - Following the suicide of a student on Wednesday, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya today staged a demonstration against the school authorities and took out a rally from CRPF GC main gate to the KV CRPF GC campus shouting slogans like “We want justice” and “We are not robots, save us”. It may be mentioned that Shamim Zinna (17), a Class XI science student of KV CRPF 9th Mile, committed suicide at his residence at Baghorbori on Wednesday afternoon, after being scolded by his parents following a complaint received from his school teacher.
A protesting student said that one of the teachers, known for the severe punishment he metes out to his students, had complained to Shamim’s parents that he had written something abusive on a classroom desk. After being scolded by his parents, Shamim took his own life for fear of being punished by the teacher in question.
It may be mentioned that before taking the extreme step, Shamim had posted a few WhatsApp statuses which read “think before you take my name, I have not written anything abusive” , “please inform what is happening in the school” and “17 days left to take birth in a new world”. Meanwhile, the protesting students alleged that their school Principal Bishnu Datt Taylor did not allow them to raise the issue within the school premises as it concerned an incident that had happened ‘outside’.
On the other hand, Principal Taylor expressed ignorance about the incident as it had taken place at Shamim’s residence. “But we are enquiring into the matter,” the Principal added.
