NALBARI, Dec 6 - The ruling BJP is facing a stiff challenge from the Congress and the AGP in different zila parishad seats in Nalbari district. The all out effort of the party’s star campaigners has failed to gain the party its base for the second phase of Panchayat elections in the district. Meanwhile, BJP’s star campaigner Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has so far held poll rallies at Barbhag, Ghograpar and Alliya.
Even Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to visit the district tomorrow for poll campaign. However, the party has failed to woo the confidence of voters so far.
According to reports, the position of BJP candidates is not comfortable at Barbhag, Mukalmua, Belsor, Bahjani, Pokowa, Doulashal and Alliya zila parishad seats. The AGP candidates pose serious threat to BJP’s prospect in these seats.
Issues like the price rise of essential commodities, graft in development works and active role of middle men will play a major role in the poll this time in Nalbari district.
In Barbhag zila parishad seat, the prospect of Congress candidate Swapna Bezbaruah looks very bright but AGP candidate Ruma Patowary is likely to be her nearest rival. As the seat is considered a bastion of regional party, division of votes will help the Congress gain ground. In Belsor zila parishad seat, Congress candidate Sangita Patowary poses serious threat to BJP candidate Ritamani Deka. The image of former ZPC member Deka is not at all good among the voters.
