GUWAHATI, Dec 6 - The annual conference and general body meeting of the Don Bosco Higher Education in India (DBHEI) on the theme, ‘Nation’s Progress in the Constitutional Way’, was held from November 30 to December 2 at the Don Bosco Institute for Development and Leadership, Dimapur, a press release received here stated.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr (Fr) Marcelo Farfan, general coordinator, Salesian University Worldwide, Rome. Dr Jose Kuruvachira, Provincial, Salesian Province of Dimapur, Dr Maria Charles, vice president, DBHEI, and over 50 heads of various higher educational institutions were present on the occasion.
In his inaugural address, Fr Farfan called on the Indian institutions of learning for a higher level of networking and sharing. In his welcome address, Fr Jose Kuruvachira asked the Salesian educators to imbibe in the students the need to safeguard the freedom and integrity of the country.
Dr Maria Soosai, DBHEI secretary, expressed the fear that the Constitution of the country could be amended for political gains. Dr Maria Charles, DBHEI vice president, deliberated on issues affecting higher education in India and highlighted the needs of higher education in the 21st century.
