SHILLONG, Dec 6 - For only the second time in its history, a woman deputy commissioner (DC) took charge in East Khasi Hills district today.

Matsiewdor War Nongbri is the second woman officer after MR Mawlong to have become the DC of the district. Mawlong was the first woman DC who held office from 1988 to 1991.

The new DC took charge at a small function in which the outgoing DC, PS Dkhar, was also present. Before her latest posting, Nongbri was the Joint Secretary in the Planning Department. A versatile personality, Nongbri is also a well-known archer having represented the country in the 1986 Asian Games in South Korea.

Later, she became an international archery judge and adjudicated in the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Meanwhile, Dkhar, who has been promoted as the Commissioner Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, said East Khasi Hills district is the “role model” for other districts.
