Sit-in protest against the government’s rehabilitation move at Sonapur on Wednesday.
JORABAT, Dec 6 - Protests against the State government’s decision to rehabilitate 200 evicted families in Tegheria near Sonapur continue in the Dimoria region.

Following the sit-in demonstration staged by the Amri Karbi Autonomous Demand Movement Committee (AKADMC) in front of the Sonapur Revenue Circle office yesterday, members of another 10 Dimoria-based organisations held protest here today on the same issue and submitted a memorandum to the circle officer.

The memorandum demanded that the decision of the State government to rehabilitate the 200 evicted families be rolled back with immediate effect and all the industries set up illegally in and around the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary be removed. The memorandum further demanded that all the indigenous people residing here for long be given miyadi patta by the government.

Jatindra Nath Deka, president of the AASU’s Dimoria unit, said the government should identify the industries illegally set up in Amchang and in its surroundings, and remove them as soon as possible.
