GUWAHATI, Dec 6 - Police today claimed to have solved the mysteries surrounding the death of BCom final year student Shweta Agarwal stating that she got killed by her boyfriend Govind Singhal in a ‘fit of rage’ following a heated argument.

Shweta’s charred body was found on Monday afternoon from the house of her boyfriend Govind Singhal, who along with his mother and sister is currently in police custody.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Nath told media persons that both Shweta and Govind went to the latter’s house at Santipur on that fateful day where they had tea together.

“Soon they got engaged into a quarrel, and as the argument got intensified, Shweta was pushed by Govind following which she hit the wall and started bleeding,” Nath said.

“Soon she started bleeding profusely, eventually leading to her death. It was after that the accused first tried to put the body in a gunny bag and dispose it in a dumping ground. However, he decided against it out of fear and instead opted to pour some kerosene oil on the body and burn the body inside the lavatory of the house,” Nath said quoting the confessional statements of the accused.

“It was not a planned murder,” Nath said.

As far as the role of the Govind’s mother and elder sister is concerned, statements of circumstantial evidences are still being corroborated.

“While Govind said that he set the body on fire after his mother and sister came back home, his mother claims that the body was already set on fire when she reached home,” Nath said.

“It is, however, clear that Govind’s mother and elder sister were not at home when Shweta died. However, they apparently tried to destroy the evidence and cover up the murder. It was Govind’s elder sister who called up the police informing a girl was lying dead in their house,” the police commissioner said.

Nath further informed that both Govind and Shweta were in a romantic relationship since 2016 but all was not well between them since last three months or so.

“Govind’s family was planning to shift their base from Guwahati to Siliguri. To this, Shweta wanted Govind to take up the matter of their courtship with their families, which the latter was allegedly dilly-dallying,” he said, pointing out that Shweta’s family was not at all aware of their relationship.
