SILCHAR, Dec 5 - “From the Prime Minister to State BJP president, the entire team is severely frustrated and, hence, making baseless comments to befool the people,” said Sushmita Dev addressing the media here on Tuesday.
Sushmita Dev took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying, “Our PM does not talk of development any more. The core issues have not been solved during the past four years. Assam State BJP president also talks on irrelevant issues which clearly indicate that the ruling party is complacent and frustrated and the combination of both will bring their downfall in the Panchayat election.”
Ahead of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s visit to Barak Valley, the parliamentarian sought answers on the success of NREGA, steps to prevent river erosion and on corruption. Claiming that a section of the BJP top brass here is engaged in running syndicates, Sushmita urged the Chief Minister to initiate a probe into the activities of Forest Department, which in her words, shall reveal the ground realities.
The Silchar MP firmly said that Congress will make a sweeping comeback in the Panchayat elections. Asked about her views on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Dev, who is also a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meant to garner opinions on the Bill, said that the proceedings of the discussions and debates on the Bill would come before the public in due course of time and many BJP leaders might be seen hiding their faces.
On the other hand, Lakhipur MLA Rajdip Goala has slammed the ruling party saying BJP had utterly failed to fulfil the promises it made to the people. He reminded the Chief Minister ahead of his visit to Barak Valley regarding the NREGA schemes, pending amount of Rs 1,000 crore for the tea garden labourers etc., and urged him to take steps. “The BJP is aiming to capture panchayat level governance by its centralised design using muscle power crushing the motto of rural development. This is condemnable,” the MLA stated.
