AIZAWL, Dec 5 - Former Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram, Lalhmingliana, who has been sentenced to three-year imprisonment by a Delhi court for forging air tickets to claim reimbursement on travel allowance, today said that he would make an appeal in the Delhi High Court.

“I am shocked by the judgment. I will go to Delhi next week to appeal in the Delhi High Court,” Lalhmingliana said.

The two-time former Rajya Sabha member was convicted for cheating, forgery and using forged documents under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act by special CBI judge NK Malhotra. The sentence pronounced on November 30 also imposed a fine of Rs 11 lakh on him.

Meanwhile, Lalhmingliana was granted statutory bail to enable him to file an appeal in the Delhi High Court.

Lalhmingliana was elected to the Rajya Sabha twice from 2002 to 2014 on a Mizo National Front ticket.
