Correspondent
BONGAIGAON, Dec 5 - A police personnel’s strong vigil and timely action foiled an attempt by robbers to loot a bank in Bongaigaon district in the wee hours on Sunday.

A gang of robbers had reached Kabaitari under Jogighopa PS in the district on Sunday at around 2 am by a Tata Sumo vehicle. They broke three locks of the Assam Gramin Vikash Bank to get inside it before a policeman named Dilwar Hussain noticed them. The robbers fled the scene in the vehicle sensing police action.

Dilwar also followed them taking another police personnel with him in a vehicle. The robbers however managed to cross North Salmara and Manikpur areas.

However, at last the Barpeta Road police succeeded in detaining the robbers along with their vehicle. The robbers confessed to their plans to rob the bank, sources said.
