GUWAHATI, Dec 5 - Guwahati will host the 30th Academic Conference of the All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) from December 7 to 9. The Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA), which has been given the responsibility to host the meet, has completed its arrangement to accommodate more than a thousand university and college teachers, besides some academic luminaries from different states and Union Territories and a few delegates from Bangladesh, said a press release issued by the reception committee.
The reception committee, headed by Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made all arrangements for the delegates and the conference venue, the District Library, has been arranged vibrantly.
The conference sets the objective of arriving at pragmatic resolutions with regard to the future roadmap of higher education in India, besides addressing the apprehensions of the teaching community about the current educational policy.
The topic – ‘Some inputs for Draft National Policy 2016 as in MHRD website: critical appraisal, comments & suggestions – has been chosen as the theme of the conference.
The inaugural session will be presided by AIFUCTO president Prof Keshab Bhattacharyya.
Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the conference and the Assembly Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass will release the souvenir. The day will also witness a cultural programme showcasing the heritage of NE region and this programme will be inaugurated by Paban Kr Barthakur, Principal Secretary, Dept of Education, Govt of Assam.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Dr Mridul Kumar Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, and chaired by Dr Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University. The keynote address will be delivered by Prof Sudhansu Bhusan, NUEPA, and renowned academician Prof Arun Kumar, an ex-JNU Professor, will deliver a speech on education policy.
