Miscreants snatch rifle, ammo from Manas NP
Correspondent
JALAH, Dec 3 – Unidentified miscreants snatched a .315 rifle and 17 rounds of bullets from forest officials inside the Manas National Park around 8pm last evening.

According to police sources, the incident took place at Agrang camp under Bhuyapara Range inside the Manas National Park.

Sources said three miscreants called out the forest officials from their camp, made them stand in queue and fired in air before taking away the arms and ammunition. Though there were two rifles in the camp, the miscreants took away only one. They also left behind mobile phones, solar lights and others items in the camp.

Four officials, including two foresters – Dwibayan Dev Nath and Pranabjyoti Nath – and two NGO volunteers of Agrang society – Kalason Goyari and Dhananjay Brahma – were guarding the camp when the incident took place. Goyari, however, managed to escape and informed the police. The remaining three came out of the camp this morning, sources said.

Police today went to the spot and recovered an empty cartridge from the spot.

It may be mentioned here that in October last, suspect NDFB(S) militants snatched three .303 rifles, a .315 rifle, walkie-talkies, torchlights and mobile phones from forest guards at Sihajhar camp in the Kahitema Range and snatched a walkie-talkie and other items belonging to the forest guards from Chalabghat camp of Manas National Park.
