|Pollution certificate for vehicles compulsory|
GUWAHATI, Dec 3 – The Assam Transport Department will soon adopt necessary measures to control vehicular pollution in the environment. This programme is part of the Pilot Project of the Central Government which will be executed from December 10 onwards.
Motor vehicles which are one - year old from the date of first registration will now have to carry a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). The PUCC will be issued by the authorized Pollution Testing Station.
Non - production of PUCC when demanded by the officials of Transport Department or Assam Police will invite penal provisions under MV Act.
The Government has fixed the rates for testing of vehicles under PUCC. As such, two wheeler vehicles will be charged to Rs. 85/ - , three and four wheelers will be charged Rs. 110/ - and above four wheeler vehicles will be charged to the tune of Rs. 115/ - .
PUCC will be now available in the major petrol pumps and in the vehicle dealers of the city. All the private and commercial vehicles may get their vehicles tested and then obtain a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate, official sources said here today.
