|Cong to hold ‘day of deceit’ on Dec 21|
GUWAHATI, Dec 3 – The State Congress today decided to hold a rally on December 21 and to observe the day as the Pratarana Divas (the day of deceit) in protest against the alleged deceitful role of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - led Government at the Centre. The BJP - led Central Government has gone even to the extent of suspending the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), 2007 with effect from December 1, alleged the Congress.
Informing this, senior leader of the party Bharat Chandra Narah, who is also the Press Advisor to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, told this newspaper today evening that the rally will be held at the Khanapara playground of the College of Veterinary Sciences at 11 am that day.
Congress workers from all over the State will take part in the rally, Narah said, adding, today's meeting decided to mobilize two lakh Congress workers right from the booth level to the district level.
The decision in this connection was adopted at a meeting of the party functionaries held at the Koinadhara residence of the Chief Minister this evening, he apprised.
He also informed that the meeting, attended by all the Ministers and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) functionaries, except the party president who is away in New Delhi, observed that the BJP has gone against its election pledges.
The BJP - led Government has started slashing up to 50 per cent of the allocations meant for the flagship programmes like the MNREGA. Besides, it has stopped releasing funds against the National Food Security Act programmes.
The Congress' meeting observed that the suspension of the NEIIPP, 2007 will have serious implications for the industrial prospect of the NE region. It has exposed the lies and deceits used by the BJP to befool the NE people during the last Lok Sabha elections, said Narah.
