NEW DELHI, Dec 2 – Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has denied that the Centre has been posting senior officials to the North East as punishment postings.
A transfer is definitely not a punishment. Otherwise, bureaucrats would have been punished every minute, the Minister said replying to a question by Gaurav Gogoi about a Civil Aviation official being transferred to Assam on punishment posting from Surat.
The gentleman was transferred out of Surat because he should not be interfering in the inquiry. The inquiry which has to be done should not be influenced by him. That is why, he has been transferred out. Transfer is definitely not a punishment. This is the only reason for his transfer and the result of the inquiry will determine his future, the Minister said.
Earlier, Gogoi had said that the Prime Minister visited the State on Sunday and talked about the development of the State. “Development cannot take place if you send bureaucrats to our State as punishment postings,” he said.
