GUWAHATI, Dec 2 – Asia’s first calcination unit, India Carbon Ltd (ICL), Guwahati that has been into manufacturing and supply of high quality calcined petroleum coke (CPC) is going to complete its 50 years of existence on December 4.
On the occasion of its golden jubilee, the company founded by PD Himatsingka and B Himatsingka has decided to keep the legacy of the founders alive by contributing towards the growth of the State.
Addressing media persons here on Friday, the CMD of the company R Himatsingka said that ICL since its inception has been serving towards the industrialization and development of Assam and this legacy would be retained.
“We have plans of expansion and working out the details for setting up a power plant very soon,” said Himatsingka adding that apart from focusing on upgrade and modernization to be in the competition, the company has also been seriously looking into other aspects like corporate social responsibility and betterment of environment.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, ICL has been regularly organizing medical camps and on the occasion of its golden jubilee year, ICL has decided to hold 12 such medical camps besides extending scholarships to meritorious students.
“One of the features that define our approach to the State and its surrounding is environment management. Conservation of energy and water resources has forever been a key objective for the company. ICL has installed high-end gas cleaning systems to ensure that industrial pollution is kept at a minimum,” said Himatsingka.
The company has also diversified into orchid cultivation and the sprawling orchid garden at its Guwahati campus is a treat for the eyes. The orchids of all colours imaginable are currently being sold primarily in the cities of Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.
The golden jubilee function of the company slated at 10 am on December 4 at its premises will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The company will felicitate some of its former employees on the occasion.
