TURA, Nov 30 – A Fast Track Court in Tura completed the final hearing of a murder case of a nine-year-old in 2006 and pronounced all the three accused involved in the incident guilty.
Sentencing in the case, which had taken the whole region by storm and had led to a huge hunt for all the three accused, is due to be completed next month and the quantum of sentencing fixed.
The High Court, which had refused to hear the case, had transferred the case back to the Sessions Court, from where the case was fast tracked in 2012. The ADM in case had awarded death sentence to all the three persons for the crime.
The three accused, Suraj Gupta, Sovraj Sonar and Ajay Das (Kirtanya) kidnapped the nine-year-old son of one Baliram Singh and then strangled the young boy before dumping his body on the Tura –Williamnagar Road. The three then proceeded to demand an amount of Rs 50 lakhs from the father of the boy, even after he had been killed in cold blood by them.
According to the case records, Suraj Gupta had masterminded the whole plan to first kidnap, then kill and demand money for the release of the nine-year-old son of Singh. However, as he was unwilling to do it alone, he added two more people to the group to complete the plan.
The plan was carried out on May 28, 2006 at 7.30 pm and a missing report filed on the same day at 8.45 pm by the family. A formal FIR was lodged on June 1, 2006 and was taken up by Sub Inspector SK Mahanta.
Gupta, who was known to the victim, had lured him on the pretext of buying him ice cream, where Ajay Das, a driver had hired a car, while Sovraj Sonar had strangled the victim before putting him in a gunny bag. The boy’s body was then dumped near the road on the Tura Williamnagar Road.
The quantum of sentencing is to be set in December, bringing to end one of the most heinous crimes committed in the region.
