AASU opposes Modi’s remark
Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Nov 30 – The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today strongly opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the land swap deal with Bangladesh, and called upon the Government not to go ahead with the deal.

In a statement here, the AASU said that the land swap deal would never be acceptable for the people of Assam. The Government of India should seal the international border with Bangladesh without handing over Assam’s land to the neighbouring country, the student body said.

The then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and chief Minister Tarun Gogoi betrayed the people of Assam by signing the land swap deal without taking the people of the state into confidence and now the NDA Government headed by Narendra Modi is following the footsteps of the Congress-led Government on the issue, the AASU alleged.

The AASU also called upon the Members of Parliament from Assam to make their stand clear on the issue, as the State unit of the BJP had been opposing the proposed land swap deal.
