Nagaon Natya Samity observes ‘Shilpi Divas’

 NAGAON, Aug 30 – The Nagaon Natya Samity, one of the oldest institutions of the State devoted to the cultural field, observed a ‘Shilpi Divas’ recently in memory of actors Chandra Phukan, Jagat Chandra Bezbaruah, Jugal Das, Dwijendra Mohan Goswami and Sarada Kanta Bordoloi. The day has been observed thus for the last 41 years.

The function held on the occasion was chaired by Ranjit Tamuly Phukan. Noted actors and actresses associated with the Nagaon Natya Samity, including Kanu Bezbaruah, Rajen Sharma, Lukima Bhagawati and Meghali Baruah, were felicitated in the function. A citation, memento and gamosa were presented to each of the persons during the felicitation. The persons, who were honoured, recalled their days at the Natya Samity. Two actors – Harendra Bhattacharyya and Ananda Sharma – were felicitated posthumously.

Moni Bordoloi, who provided the voice-over in Suranjana Deepali, a documentary based on the life of famous Assamese singer Deepali Borthakur, was also felicitated in the function. She had won a Rajat Kamal Award for the best narration/voice-over. Her husband, Upakul Bordoloi, who directed the documentary, also spoke a few words. The documentary was also screened in the function.

Premada Phukan, widow of late Chandra Phukan, and other culture-loving people were present on the occasion.
