Kolkata showroom to benefit Dima Hasao weavers

 HAFLONG, Aug 30 – Debojeet Thaosen, Chief Executive Member, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, inaugurated a showroom of North Cachar Hills Tribal Regional Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd at the Uttarapan Market, Maniktala Civic Centre, Kankurgachi, Kolkata on Monday in the presence of Ranu Langthasa, Executive Member, in charge of Handloom & Textiles, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, EV Patil, Chief Manager of the National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd, Government of India, Rajiv Biswas, chairman, Borough III, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Dipten Basu, ex-RM (Kolkata), India Trade Promotion Organisation, Uday Shankar Roy Choudhury, ex-MD, Resham Shilpi, Government of West Bengal Undertaking, Ashish Maity, Chief Engineer, Marine, Executive Ship Management, Singapore, and Sunil Kumar Goel, proprietor, Sunil Enterprise (Handicraft Export House).

P Jeme, Assistant Director in-charge, Handloom & Textiles, Dima Hasao, along with SU Ahmed, DHO, NG Gorlosa, chairman and Arun Debnath, secretary, North Cachar Hills Tribal Regional Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd, Dima Hasao, and others, were also present at the inaugural ceremony.

It may be mentioned here that the Handloom and Textiles department has been able to achieve its long-cherished dream of opening such a showroom outside the State which will benefit the tribal weavers of Dima Hasao district who can exhibit their traditional ethnic designs and motifs.
