Tripura Govt regularises 1,753 employees

 AGARTALA, Aug 29 – In yet another election centric move, the Left Front Government in Tripura has decided to regularise the services of 1,753 DRW/Contingent Workers and casual workers amidst the on-going financial crunch.

The State Cabinet has already passed the proposal virtually bringing cheer among 1,753 families ahead of the Assembly election. Talking to reporters at Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday, Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury said, the Cabinet has decided to regularise the services of DRW/Contingent Workers/ Casual Workers who are engaged up to March 31, 2003 on full time basis in different departments on the next date of completion of 10 years of service.

However, no decision for regularisation of the DRW/Contingent, workers of PSUs/Autonomous bodies were taken. He said in order to extend similar benefits to them like those of the State Government departments who are working for many years, it has been decided to regularise the service of those full time DRW working in different PSUs/Autonomous bodies and who had completed at least 10 years of service would be considered for regularisation with prospective effect.

The beneficiaries include 265 group C employee and 1488 Group D employees. Chowdhury said, the State Government will have to bear Rs 9.82 crore additional expenditure to implement the decision. On being asked about the additional financial burden, he said, “The financial requirement will be managed”.

State’s renowned gymnast Banashree Debnath will be offered with a government job – Junior Physical Instructor to recognise her contribution in the field of sports.
