Govt to enforce SC, HC ruling on bandhs
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, Aug 29 – The Assam Government today decided to strictly enforce the orders of the Supreme Court and the Gauhati High Court on call for bandhs.

Highly placed official sources told The Assam Tribune that as the Supreme Court and High Court have already declared bandhs as unconstitutional and illegal, the State Government today directed all the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to strictly enforce the court orders.

Sources said that the Government has directed the DCs and SPs to take action against the leaders of the organizations calling for bandhs and those who try to enforce such calls.

It may be mentioned here that the State witnessed two bandhs in the last couple of days and the bandh called by the AAMSU yesterday was marred by large-scale violence in different parts of the State. The bandh supporters tried to forcefully impose the bandh in parts of Assam and they even attacked men in uniform in parts of the State.
