Genuine victims to be rehabilitated

 GUWAHATI, Aug 29 – The Group of Ministers (GoM), headed by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Prithivi Majhi, today held a meeting with the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) leaders for preparing the ground for the rehabilitation of the persons displaced by the violent incidents that took place in the Bodoland Territorial Administrative Districts (BTAD).

According to official sources, the meeting, first of its kind, was of the opinion that the genuinely displaced persons should be rehabilitated and the BTC should take the lead in rehabilitating them.

However, for the purpose, the revenue records would have to be checked, it was decided in the meeting.

The meeting which was held at Kokrajhar, was attended by Prithivi Majhi, Planning and Development Minister Tanka Bahadur Rai, Social Welfare Minister Akon Bora, Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka, who are members of the GoM.

On behalf of the BTC, it was attended by Chief Executive Member of the Council Hagrama Mohilary, MLAs Pramila Rani Brahma and Majendra Narzary and several Executive Members of the Council.

Principal Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management V K Piparsania, Deputy Commissioners of Chirang and Kokrajhar and Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar also attended the meeting, among others.

Our Kokrajhar Correspondent adds BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary told the mediapersons after the meeting that the meeting discussed the issue of rehabilitation of relief camp inmates. He said the Government of Assam and BTC administration had arrived at a decision to rehabilitate the genuine Indian citizens having valid land documents to their respective villages, who are in different relief camps in Dhubri and Kokrajhar. He also said a similar meeting would be held on the rehabilitation issue at the same venue.

Majhi said the rehabilitation process would be started soon after the confidence-building measures. The rehabilitation process would be done by the State government taking into confident the BTC administration, he said, adding that from tomorrow onwards the confidence-building measures would be taken up. Majhi while replying to a question said the identification of the suspected nationalities would be done prior to start of the rehabilitation process.

On the update of NRC, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the work for upgradation of NRC would be carried out once the modalities are completed. He also said the NRC update would be done in a smooth way.

On the other hand, the BTC Chief Mohilary also held a separate meeting with Muslim elders over the positive development of decisiuon on rehabilitation of genuine camp inmates.
