|Samannay Divas to be held at Bijni College on September 7, 8|
GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - The ‘Samannay Divas’ organized by the Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust every year to commemorate the birthday of Dr Bhupen Hazarika will be held with a two-day long schedule on September 7 and 8 at the premises of Bijni College of Chirang district.
According to members of the trust, they will organize the programme in collaboration with the college authority and local people of Bijni.
As part of the celebration, the trust will confer ‘Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Award’ to artist Dr Janak Jhankar Narzary.
On September 7, a tribute programme on Kalpana Lajmi, a cultural rally and a public meeting will be held.
In the meeting, the chief of Bodoland Territorial Council Hagrama Mohilary will confer the ‘Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Award’ in presence of a host of dignitaries including Media Adviser to Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, writer Dr Upen Rabha Hakasam, secretary of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Sudarshan Thakur, former MP Kumar Deepak Das, writer Pulin Kalita, journalist Biswajit Das, principal of Kokrajhar College Dr Banbina Brahma, principal of Kokrajhar Science College Dr R Sinha etc.
On the same day, writer Anuradha Sarma Pujari and journalist Prasanta Rajguru will release two books namely Bhpendrajyoti and Amiyo Purush respectively.
As part of the meeting, Anju Devi, Sulekha Basumatary, Raju Ansari and Papori Thakuria will perform some songs of Bhupen Hazarika in different languages.
On September 8, an open session on the songs of Bhupen Hazarika and a competition of Bhupendra Sangeet will be held. The panel of the open session will comprise Gautam Sarma, Dr Apu Guha Thakurta, Dr Gigaum Brahma Kachari and Barnil Medhi.
On the same day, the trust will confer ‘Bhupen Hazarika Hitoishi Award’ posthumously to Bijay Sankar Das. The cultural event of that day will also to be held in memory of the late actor. As part of the cultural evening, the trust will also felicitate artiste Pankaj Bordoloi.
A number of artistes of the State will perform in the cultural evening to be held on both days of the programme.
