AIZAWL, Aug 28 - Mizoram Agriculture Minister Pu C Lalrinsanga today said that the Pradhan Mantri Maan Dhan Yojana (PMMDY) would be rolled out in the State soon for the benefit of unorganised sector workers. He made the announcement during an interaction with the officials.
“This is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme under which the subscriber will receive a minimum assured pension on attaining the age of 60 years. Farmer census and accurate farmland record have to be maintained to ensure that only the right persons can get benefits of the scheme,” Lalrinsanga said.
The minister also reviewed the functioning of the department at a meeting held at the Directorate of Agriculture committee room.
While commending the efforts of Agriculture officers in improving the condition of farmers in Mizoram, the minister urged them to make renewed efforts to increase farmers’ income and strive to make the State’s agriculture sector self-sufficient.
He said that in a bid to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture, the Government has constituted the Agriculture Development Board.
“Promoting use of organic fertilisers instead of chemical fertilisers, extensive use of farm mechanisation, coordination with the State’s Irrigation Department for sufficient water supply, adoption of new cropping pattern, command area development under WRC-I and WRC-II, etc., are key issues that need to be addressed,” the minister said.
Agriculture Research and Extension Director Dr H Saithantluanga and Rohmingthanga Colney from agriculture crop husbandry gave the activity reports of their respective departments and also highlighted the action plans laid out by the Agriculture Department.
