KVK meet held at Hailakandi

 HAILAKANDI, Aug 28 – The first Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Hailakandi was held at the conference hall of the DC’s office here under the chairmanship of the Joint Director of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Mizoram centre, Dr KA Pathak recently. Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, BC Borah attended the meeting as the chief guest. The meeting was also attended by representatives of various district line departments, SBI and UBI as well as farmers.

 In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Borah appreciated the performance of the KVK here and stressed the need of a joint venture of the KVK and other district line departments such as Agriculture, AH & Veterinary, Forestry, Sericulture, Fishery, DRDA, etc., in developmental activities for the uplift of the farming community of the district.

Dr KA Pathak highlighted the objectives and goals of the KVK in Hailakandi. He urged the district administration to implement the programmes jointly for the benefit of farmers.

In his speech, the chief scientist of the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Dr BP Baruah spoke on the problems and prospects of agriculture in the Barak Valley and suggested the KVK scientists to plan their activities accordingly.

The annual progress report of the KVK for 2010-11 was presented by Dr Shamsher Singh, Member Secretary-cum-Programme Coordinator, and the action plan for 2011-12 was reviewed during the meeting. Suggestions came out following a scientist-farmer interaction. The official website of the KVK, Hailakandi was also launched by the DC in the meeting.
