AIZAWL, Aug 27 - Mizoram’s COVID-19 tally touched 974 as it added seven fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The new cases were detected from among 1,204 samples tested on Wednesday.

Of 669 samples tested at the Zoram Medical College laboratory here, two men and two women – both from Aizawl district – have tested positive, an official release stated.

The two women were under home quarantine and they had contracted the infection locally after coming in contact with a positive person, while the two men were returnees and had been under institutional quarantine.

Out of 36 samples examined at the Lunglei Civil Hospital’s TrueNat lab, three people were found to be positive. They have history of travel to Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Sources said that the persons who tested negative included those under home quarantine who had come in close contact with positive persons. At present, Mizoram has 501 active cases, while 473 people have recovered from the disease.

The official release added that 36,240 samples have been tested in the State so far.
