|Dr Purnanarayan Sinha Memorial Foundation formed|
TEZPUR, Aug 27 - To keep the ideology and contributions of the former MP of Tezpur seat, Late Dr Purnanarayan Sinha towards the society alive, a foundation was formed on Monday with Dr Thaneswar Dutta as chairman, Ranjita Sinha Dutta as vice-chairman, Dr Parashmani Sinha as Director, Khirod Singha as Deputy Director and Advocate Ankul Kalita as legal adviser besides other members.
It is to be mentioned that Late Dr Purnanarayan Sinha, who was a vocal parliamentarian, was elected as a representative of the people here, from the prestigious Tezpur Lok Sabha segment on the Janata Party ticket in 1978. He spoke in the Parliament strongly on various burning issues of the State and his constituency as well. In the later years, he adorned the posts of chairman of Labour Commission, Government of Assam during the AGP regime, president of trade union, Cotton Mill, Chaidwar, near Balipara here, chairperson of SC-ST Welfare Board, Parliamentary Secretary of SC and ST etc., and was associated with many social organisations.
More importantly, only as an outcome of his selfless zeal and strong debate presented in Parliament, the Kolia Bhumuraguri bridge came into being, which was formally inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on April 14, 1987.
Talking to this correspondent regarding the mission, vision and objectives of the ‘Dr. Purnanarayan Sinha Memorial Foundation’ that came into being today, its chairman, Dr Thaneswar Dutta mentioned that the foundation will ensure social justice, economic and educational and political enhancement for the disadvantaged section of the society with special focus on women and children, health and nutrition, socio-cultural and environmental development aiming at service delivery and capacity building. “As Dr Purnanarayan Sinha who was popular among the people as a ‘Jana Neta’ (leader of the people) always dreamt of a classless society, where equal rights was the prime focus, through this foundation we shall try our level best to materialise all those dreams.”
