PATACHARKUCHI, Aug 27 - The Bajali zila samiti of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the SDO© Bajali subdivision and demanded a stop to construction of all big dams, including Lower Subansiri project and other such dams in the North East and also sought a permanent solution to the perennial flood problem in the state.

The activists numbering more than 50 staged a three-hour sit-in demonstration at Pathsala in support of their demands. Thereafter, they visited the office of the SDO© and submitted a memorandum in which they listed their grievances.

Provided their demands were not addressed, they warned that they will take up a strong agitational programme in the interest of the general people. Their demands included a stop to construction of dams, besides a permanent solution to the problem of floods and resultant land erosion.

The memorandum was signed by president Mridul Talukdar and general secretary Lakheswar Talukdar.

Several members of the organisation coming from Pathsala, Nityananda, Bhabanipur, Pub Hastinapur anchalik samiti of AJYCP and Bhattadev University unit also took part in the programme.
