AJYCP stages Statewide protest against mega dam
GUWAHATI, Aug 26 - Registering its strong protest against the Union and the State governments’ move towards implementing the 2000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydro Electricity Project (LSHEP), the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) today staged protest demonstrations across the State.

The protesters submitted memorandums addressed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the DCs of their respective districts, demanding to stop the LSHEP and all other ongoing mega dam projects in the North East and a permanent solution to the flood and erosion problem of the State.

AJYCP is one of the prominent organisations protesting against the construction of big dams, particularly the Lower Subansiri. The Parishad rapped the State governments for not taking the common people as well protesting organisations into confidence before signing the MoU with the NHPC. The protest against big dams would continue in State, said the AJYCP.

On September 13, the Parishad would organise a mass sit-in demonstration in Guwahati as part of its anti-dam movement.
