Hill cutting on rise in Kamrup(E) Forest Div
Correspondent
AZARA, Aug 26 Despite a ban and imposition of Section 144 by the district administration, hill cutting is continuing unabated in Kamrup East Forest Division. It has been observed that a section of traders have engaged excavators for cutting hills at Rani and Dakshin Guwahati forest ranges under the division. Reliable sources have revealed here that the traders allegedly having nexus with forest officials are cutting the hills and supplying soil day and night to several construction sites at Azara, Rani, Kahikuchi, Gorchuk, Pamohi, Lakhara etc.

It has also been observed that soil is being cut from Chakardow, Garampara, Andherijuli and Deochatal hills under Rani Reserve Forest and from Pamohi and Garbhanga hills under Dakshin Guwahati Reserve Forest.

It may be noted here that the cutting of hills has caused serious concern in the area. Fear of landslides in those areas cannot be ruled out. It has also caused environmental imbalance in these areas. The conscious people in the area have demanded the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M) to halt such activities.
