Five arrested for vandalising temple
 DHUBRI, Aug 25 - As many as five persons from Tokrechara village under Golokganj PS were arrested on Saturday evening, for allegedly vandalising the South Tokrechara Pt-IV Kali Mandir and causing damage to the idols of Devi Kali and Lord Shiva, in the wee hours of Saturday.

 It may be mentioned that situation at Tokrechara village and its nearby areas remained tense after the incidents on Saturday. Police said that on receiving information, the Police staff of Golokganj PS as well as senior police officers of the district reached the spot and at first marginalised any chances of communal tension with the help of some prominent persons of the locality and with the Mandir committee members.

Later, the investigation started and tracker dog of CRPF 48 Bn was used to track down the miscreants, involved in the incident. In this connection, a case was also registered on the basis of FIR of Ranjit Ray, president of South Tokrechara Pt-IV Kali Mandir (Golokganj PS Case No- 982/2019) which was registered under Section 120 (B), 457, 295, 295 (A) and 427 IPC.

Dinesh Ch Ray (39), Surajit Sutradhar (24), Asish Sarkar (23), Cheniram Ray (33), Sanjay Barman (22) all residents of Tokrechara village were arrested.

“The accused were picked up on the basis of local intelligence input on their suspicious movement and their location in and around the Kali Mandir on that night. Besides there was information that they were drug addicts”, said DSP Trinayan Bhuyan. He also informed that during interrogation, the fact of their involvement in the case was established. The persons were hence arrested and later forwarded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, in another incident, in a raid conducted at Beparipatty and Chowrangimor under Gauripur area, police apprehended 11 persons and seized items used for teer gambling and cash Rs 4940.
