ITANAGAR, Aug 25 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today paid floral tribute to former Union minister and senior BJP leader late Arun Jaitley during the Shraddhanjali Samaroh organised by the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its head office here.
The Chief Minister along with several BJP MLAs and party workers also observed a two-minute silence for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Expressing grief over the demise of Jaitley, Khandu remembered the former Union Finance Minister as an outstanding parliamentarian and a legal luminary who always fought for the eradication of corruption.
He appreciated Jaitley for bringing major financial reforms such as GST, Jan Dhan Yojana and demonetization.
The Chief Minister also described having personally met Jaitley several times and said he was always encouraging towards Arunachal becoming economically self-sufficient. “Following his direction, we have been trying to make Arunachal a self-sustainable State,” he said.
The BJP stalwart and Rajya Sabha MP died yesterday at the AIIMS, New Delhi, where he was admitted on August 9 following complaints of breathlessness.
