OC of Dalgaon PS suspended
Correspondent
MANGALDAI, Aug 25 – The officer in-charge (OC) of Dalgaon Police Station, SI Dayaram Saikia, who was recently in the eye of a storm for his alleged failure to tackle the law-and-order situation in an effective manner on August 19 last, has been placed under suspension, a highly placed source in Darrang police informed on Sunday.

It may be recalled that police resorted to firing in the air to disperse an agitated group of youths who had gheraoed the Dalgaon PS on August 19 after a student of Kharupetia College was killed in a road accident. Police reportedly arrived at the place very late and resorted to lathicharge on the aggrieved students assembled on the highway without making any effort to pacify them, which later worsened the situation.

Pratul Bhuyan, the Circle Inspector of Kharupetia Circle will take on additional charge of Dalgaon PS, the source added.
