BJP concern over State law and order
Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Aug 25 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh on Monday expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and asked the government to clarify whether Priya Basumatary, killed by NDFB (S), was a police informer as claimed by the extremist outfit.

The saffron party also insisted that the Chief Minister resign as he has failed to protect the lives and property of the people of the state.

“The law and order situation has been deteriorating day by day and extremist outfits are calling the shots. The government has failed to secure the state's border encouraging aggression from across the border," said Jadav Chandra Deka, the leader of the BJP Legislature Party.

Expressing deep anguish over the killing of Priya Basumatary, Deka said that the incident calls for an inquiry and the Assam Police should break its silence and shed light on whether the girl was a police informer or not.

Deka said that though the government has been talking a lot about modernization of the police force, it has actually failed to realize this objective. “The menace created by the terrorist outfits proves that there is lack of infrastructure and adequate manpower in the Assam police as a result of which the common people are regularly being targeted by the groups,” said Deka.
