Correspondent
TURA, Aug 21 - Distribution of relief to victims of the recent floods in the plain belt of West Garo Hills (WGH) began today in earnest.

“We had a delay due to floods in Dhubri from where the relief materials were due. However, we have received the relief materials and distribution has already begun,” said WGH deputy commissioner, Pravin Bakshi.

The MLAs of the affected constituencies, AT Mondal (Phulbari), Ashahel D Shira (Rajabala), Clement Marak (Selsella) and Michael Sangma (Tikrikilla) met at Phulbari today to review the situation and take stock of damages.

A total of 1.9 lakh residents from 140 villages of the four constituencies have been affected by the current deluge. The State Government has provided 14 days of Gratuitous Relief (GR) to victims of the flood.

Meanwhile, the water levels in all places have come down and most families are returning to their homes.
