|PGSU protests 3rd semester admission fee hike|
JALUKBARI, Aug 21 - The Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU), Gauhati University, today held a protest demonstration in front of the Vice Chancellor’s office against a hike in fees for admission into the third semester.
Talking to this correspondent, PGSU president Sanjib Talukdar said, “The University authority is making fun of the students by increasing admission fees, which we are not going to tolerate. Most of the students are from the rural background and hence it becomes difficult for them to bear the enhanced fees.”
Student representatives from various departments also demanded a halt to the admission process till there is a rollback in the fee hike.
Later, the University Registrar assured the protesters that the matter would be discussed at a meeting to be held on August 24. Until then, the admission process has been put on hold.
