APHLC president comes down heavily against Karbi Anglong SP
Correspondent
DIPHU, Aug 20 - The All People Hill Leader Conference (APHLC) president JI Kathar in a press conference on Sunday came down heavily against the incumbent Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong and said that he was shocked when the former recently asked him about the number of stone quarries owned by Kathar.

While addressing the media, Kathar said: “Since the SP wanted to know about the exact number of quarries within Karbi Anglong district, I told him that the CEM was in-charge of the Forest Department, and so he would know better. I also told him that only the CEM and the Chief Conservator of Forests will be able to give him an appropriate answer.”

Kathar further mentioned that the SP was dissatisfied with his reply and continued to ask him the same question.

He also stated that the SP even asked him if he knew any other John Ingti Kathar as there were many stone quarries operating under this particular name. Kathar mentioned that some people might have used his name in anonymously.

“Owning any quarry is beyond my imagination. It is true that my name is Jones, not John, and it is clear that many thieves who are stealing stones, sand and other natural resources have used my name. I don’t own any benami stone quarry, sand mahal or coal mine. I condemn those thieves who use other people’s names for furthering their narrow interests,” Kathar said.

In the meantime, the APHLC also demanded immediate closure of all the quarries in the district and urged Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to take the initiative in this regard.
