Seminal contributions of Bhavaprasad Chaliha hailed

 GUWAHATI, Aug 20 - A felicitation programme was organized on the occasion of the 82nd birthday of ‘Prajnaratna Adhyapak’ Bhavaprasad Chaliha at the Lakshmiram Baruah Sadan today.

Prof Chaliha, a noted scholar, however, could not attend the programme due to illness.

A book on Chaliha titled Prajnaratna Adhyapak Bhavaprasad Chaliha: Byokti aru Kriti was also released by veteran journalist DN Chakravartty, who spoke at length on the contributions of Prof Chaliha in diverse spheres of life.

Prof Chaliha’s birthday is being celebrated as ‘Manabotar Divas’ (Day of Humanity) since 2004 by Manab Bikash Samaj.

“Prof Chaliha was a staunch believer in the fact that humanity is a religion of the future. His towering personality and his ideals are a guiding light for the Assamese society,” Chakravartty said.

Delivering the lecture to mark the occasion, Dr Hitesh Deka, Vice Chancellor of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University dwelt on various aspects of Prof Chaliha and his contributions.

Former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Lakshminandan Bora and president of Assam Natya Sanmilni Dulal Roy were also present besides a host of other personalities on the occasion.
