GUWAHATI, Aug 19 - A Deputy Superintendent of Police of the CBI has been arrested by police here on charges of attempting to rape a young married lady who happens to be the wife of an Indian Revenue Service officer. The incident took place at the victim’s official residence at the Brahmaputra Guest House located at Patharquarry under Satgaon Police Station.

On Friday around 11.30 am, the CBI DSP, identified as Pearson Shadang, barged into the residence of the IRS officer, who was then out on duty, and tried to rape his 23-year-old wife. When the lady screamed, orderlies posted with the IRS officer rushed to the place and nabbed the accused. Apparently, the accused was in an inebriated condition.

The DSP is at present posted at the Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI on Lodhi Road in New Delhi. Shadang (55), hailing from Manipur, was here for some work and was staying at the guest house.

“On receipt of the information, police from Satgaon PS rushed to the guest hose and nabbed the culprit. A case has been registered at Satgaon PS (199/17) under sections 448/354/376/511 of IPC. The accused was today forwarded to judicial custody,” ACP (Noonmati) Purabi Mazumdar told The Assam Tribune.

Police sources said Shadang got introduced to the IRS officer’s family a day before. On the day of the incident, Shadang even paid some money to an orderly of the IRS officer and sent him away. The DSP had also booked his flight ticket in a bid to escape after committing the crime.

The IRS officer is posted in Guwahati as an Assistant Commissioner.
