GUWAHATI, Aug 19 – Eleven militants, including two women cadres, belonging to Manipur-based outfit UNLF were arrested from three different places following an operation by the City Police in the wee hours today.
Police also recovered a satellite phone, 20 cell phones, two gypsies, ten laptops, three video cameras and a number of ATM and credit cards. Cash worth over Rs 2.5 lakh was recovered from the possession of the militants.
Sources in the police department while confirming the arrest informed that the cadres were picked up from areas like Motghoria, Chachal and Hengrabari.
“The militants were taking shelter in Guwahati for quite some time and some of them were even carrying out illegal activities from the city itself,” the sources stated.
A senior Assam Police official meanwhile informed that the operation against those holed up in and around the city would continue.
“Of late, cadres of various militant outfits have been arrested and we are keeping a close watch on their activities,” he stated.
