SIVASAGAR, Aug 18 - The All Assam Students’ Uuion’s Sivasagar district unit today called for a 100-hour ONGC bundh on August 28 in protest against its alleged anti-local and privatisation policies.

A release signed by Ashim Dutta, president and Samiran Phukan, secretary of the unit, demanded that the Centre’s move to hand over the profit-making Geleki oil field under ONGC to Schlumberger under a production enhancing contract and anti-Assam policies be revoked immediately.

The students’ body claimed that ONGC did not care to respond to a 10-point charter of demands submitted to the ED and Asset Manager of ONGC at Nazira on May 21 last.

A press release further stated that ONGC invested around Rs 262 crores to revamp the Geleki oil field recently and now the same has been leased out to US company Schlumberger.

The AASU severely criticised the move and demanded that ONGC must continue its operations from all the fields at Panidihing, Dimuwal, Desungmukh, Changmaigaon, Suffry and Sonari.
