|Nagaon Police organises public-police ‘bada khana’ |
NAGAON, Aug 18 - A police-public ‘bada khana’ was organised today at Nagaon Police Auditorium by the Nagaon Police under a special initiative of the Superintendent of Police, Shankar Brata Raimedhi to mark the celebration for the first time in the history of Nagaon Police, the receipt of a ‘medal for excellence in investigation 2019’ given by the Union Home Ministry.
This unique forum arranged by Nagaon Police witnessed the presence of DC Nagaon, Jadav Saikia, MLA, Nagaon, Rupak Sarma, District & Sessions Judge, Rita Kaur, office bearers of all student organisations like AASU, AJYCP and AAMSU and other organisations, leading senior citizens like Abu Hanifa, Rajen Borkakoti, the journalist community from the print and electronic media, other officers of the civil administration, officers of the Judiciary and public prosecutor as well as special public prosecutor Bibha Phukon and Manash Jyoti Neog respectively who represented the State in the prosecution of the heinous and statewide sensational Batadrava rape and murder case.
The Nagaon Police felicitated the special public prosecutor and the public prosecutor of the Batadrava case which led to the conviction of the accused persons in a record period of 114 days from the date of registration of the case till the death sentence pronounced by the Court of the District and Sessions judge, Nagaon.
Nagaon Police and various socio-cultural organisations also felicitated the head of the special investigation team, Shankar Brata Raimedhi, SP, Nagaon, Ripul Das, the then Additional SP, SI (Retd) Maheswar Saikia and SI (Retd) Dhiren Kakoti for their remarkable investigation which led to capital punishment of the prime person and instilled the faith of general public in the criminal justice system.
The SP, Nagaon, in his speech stated that the bada khana was basically held within the force members but the bada khana with the public is an attempt to involve the public and improve the relationship between the police and the general public.
