FLO holds interactive event with ADGP Harmeet Singh

GUWAHATI, Aug 18 - FICCI FLO North East on Saturday held an interactive event ‘Face to Face’ with State Additional Director General of Police Harmeet Singh on the topic ‘Cyber World – Pitfalls and Safeguards,’ stated a press release issued here today.

To elucidate the concept behind the event, a video byte sent by FLO national president Harjinder Kaur Talwar was played before the gathering. In the programme conducted by Vasavi Acharyya, FLO North East chairperson, Dr Srutimala Duara, in her welcome address said, “Crime has been rampant in this world since time immemorial, taking different shapes and shades. In today’s world it has taken the shape of cyber crime; crime committed through the computer. Technology has given the world advantages unheard of in the past, but it also has its pitfalls that have turned people’s life upside down.”

FLO North East vice chairperson Suruchi Agarwal introduced Harmeet Singh to the gathering. Singh is stated to be the man behind the use of social media by the police for a cause. Singh and Salik Khan comprise the social media team that has made the Assam Police a celebrity on Twitter. Their perfect balance of quirk and social message has caught the eyes of many, and it has also opened up the doors of conversation for reaching out to the masses, the release added.

Harmeet Singh in his power-point presentation spoke on the necessity of having a password on mobile phones, warning against doing any online shopping using public Wi-Fi in airports, shopping malls or restaurants. He spoke on how to be safe from hackers, stalkers and harassment from advertisers who might actually be trying to get into the mobile user’s details. He also appealed to everyone to think before forwarding any message that comes as forwards on WhatsApp. Singh with his witty anecdotes gave an account of the cases in which the Assam Police managed to fish out cyber criminals. Following the interaction, the vote of thanks was offered by senior vice chairperson Juhie Saboo.
