The Great Assam School Shake-out Prog held across State

 BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 17 - The District Disaster Management Authority, Biswanath in collaboration with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Education Department, Fire and Emergency Services and Civil Defence conducted the ‘Great Assam School Shake-out programme’ covering 100 schools of the entire district today at 11 am along with the rest of the State.

The programme began with an ‘evacuation drill’ by students to tackle eventualities in case of fire or earthquake emergencies. The programme was organised to commemorate the 1950 Great Assam Earthquake, which remains in the history of Assam as a high-intensity earthquake that caused massive loss of life and property. The drill was followed by an exhibition at Chariali HS and MP School, Borgang High School and Gohpur Higher Secondary School on display of equipment and emergency preparedness measures.

Our Barpeta correspondent adds: ‘The Great Assam School Shake-out Programme’, a demonstration on the measures to be taken during earthquakes was performed in 100 schools of the district today.

Measures of self defence and rescue of the distressed people were exhibited before the students.

A press release issued by the DIPRO Bikash Sarma stated that out of the hundred schools where the .mock drill was conducted today, 35 are LP and 65 High Schools.

Our Morigaon Correspondent adds: The ‘Great Assam School Shake-out Programme’ on school safety and mock drill on earthquake and Fire and focus on safe evacuation planning during an earthquake conducted at 100 schools under four educational blocks in Morigaon district was organised today by the District Disaster Management Authority, Morigaon. The programme was also assisted by Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Department of Education, Fire and Emergency Service and SDRF. In Morigaon MV School, an exhibition stall was set up where display of all fire fighting and rescue equipment were done.

A Correspondent adds from Nagaon: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, today conducted sensitisation programmes at various educational institutions and the offices of emergency services here.

During the drive, the personnel of those emergency services also displayed a series of mock drills as well as other preventive manual tricks and tips to tackle the situation in the time of natural calamities or other disasters.

In a press note issued by the District Information and Public Relation Officer, Nagaon, it was stated that the personnel of those emergency services of the district conducted the drive at the district office of Assam Police Fire Services, Mahendra Boruah LP School, Chakalaghat JB School and six other spots of the district.

Our Hailakandi Correspondent adds: A mega mock drill to check preparedness of earthquakes was conducted in 100 schools across Hailakandi district on Saturday.

As part of ‘The Great Assam School Shake-out Programme’ commemorating the great 1950 Assam earthquake, the event was held in an organised way here by the District Disaster Management Authority, Fire and Emergency Services Station, Education department and volunteers at 11 am simultaneously in 100 schools across the district.

Mock drill exercise depicting ‘emergency assembly point’ for safe evacuation in an emergency was conducted by resource persons as part of school safety measures.

The mock drills were conducted commemorating the 1950 Great Assam Earthquake. The drill comprised Earthquake and Fire Drill and focused on safe evacuation planning during an earthquake.

The drill began at 11 am at all the 100 schools. An ‘Emergency Assembly Point’ was fixed at open space outside school where students/ staff can gather during earthquake, fire or any emergency.

Our Kokrajhar Correspondent adds: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kokrajhar today organised an Earthquake Mock Drill at 100 selected schools of the district. It was a Flagship Programme of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), called The Great School Shake-out Programme-2019 which covered the 100 schools from each district of Assam.

The mock drills were conducted commemorating the 1950 Great Assam Earthquake. The drill comprised Earthquake and Fire Drill and focused on safe evacuation planning during an earthquake.

A disaster management exhibition also organised centrally at Kokrajhar town followed by the mega drill.

Our Haflong Correspondent adds: The Great Assam School Shake-out Programme is an initiative taken by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to generate awareness among the people about preparedness and measures needed to be adopted to minimise the losses during calamities such as earthquakes or fires and other emergencies.

As directed by the government, the District Disaster Management Authority of Dima Hasao conducted a mock drill in schools at 11 am today with an overwhelming participation from school students and teachers. One hundred schools throughout Dima Hasao district took part in this awareness-cum-mock drill programme.
