KLNLF leaders meet Sonia

DIPHU, Aug 17 – Leaders of insurgent outfit KLNLF, now on ceasefire, met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi today and submitted a memorandum demanding autonomy and development of

the twin districts of Karbi Anglong and NC Hills.

Talking to PTI over phone, Karbi Longri National Liberation Front general secretary Thong Teron described the meeting as “positive and an important political development for the two districts bringing the hope for self-rule”.

Teron said Gandhi assured them of looking into their demands and said she would talk to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for taking steps for development in the area.

The KLNLF delegation, he said, will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow.

The KLNLF had decommissioned their arms (laying down of arms) at a public function here on February 12 last year when 400 of its cadres had surrendered. – PTI
