Teenage boy drowns in city flashflood

 GUWAHATI, Aug 16 - A fifteen-year-old boy died when he was washed away in the flashfloods on RG Baruah Road yesterday evening.

 Dispur ACP Himangshu Das said Bikash Das was riding a cycle when he fell off while trying to manoeuvre through the flashfloods on RG Baruah Road near Sundarpur.

He slipped into the Bahini river and the gushing waters swept him away. The cycle was found in the area. The body was recovered this morning about 100 metres from the spot where he had fallen into the Bahini river.

The deceased was from Dhamdhama in Nalbari and was living with his relatives in Krishnanagar area here.

A heavy downpour triggered flash-flooding in several areas of the city yesterday evening, resulting in massive traffic snarls.

There was knee-deep waters at places on RG Baruah Road following the rains which began around 4 pm. The waters receded after several hours.

Rows of vehicles were stranded on the flooded areas, causing immense hardships to travellers.
