Congressmen join BJP, Ghatowar denies interest
Staff Correspondent
DIBRUGARH, Aug 15 - Ten grassroot-level activists of the Indian National Congress (INC), including a district general secretary here today renounced their allegiance to the party and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Former Ward Commissioner of Dibrugarh Municipal Board and one of the general secretaries of the Dibrugarh District Congress Committee (DDCC), Ananta Kumar Gogoi, joined the saffron brigade along with others at the town mandal office of the BJP here today. Local MLA Prasanta Phukan accorded warm welcome to the new members and personally issued them the party membership. Phukan said that the newcomers expressed unhappiness with the Indian National Congress party.

It is learned that more Congressmen are seeking to disassociate with the party due to differences with the district party leadership on several issues. Earlier, speculation was rife in the social media that former Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar of the INC would soon align with the BJP but the veteran Congress leader has denied it outrightly. “Many have joined and the party is already crowded. What will I do there? They actually want me to join their party but I am not interested,” Ghatowar said.
